Teaching Artists

Teaching Artists are professional artists, educators, and enviromentalists who have demonstrated experience facilitating and teaching through school and community settings. ARTS-Us Teaching Artist wil lead youth in a variety of art forms such as:

-Literary Arts (Creative Writing – prose, poetry, & spoken word)
-Performance Arts (African-Based Movement, African Drumming, Storytelling/Acting, Spoken Word)
-Environmental Arts & Education (gardening, waste reduction,toxicity reduction)
-Visual Arts (drawing, painting, photography, clay art).

Mentors

Mentors positively lead and encourage students to participate in the diverse experiences of Camp Teranga. Mentors have the opportunity to learn and participate alongside their campers. A Mentor’s example sets the participation bar for the group.

Junior Mentors.

Junior Mentors lead by example. They complete the art projects, learn the dances, create spoken word, journal, swim, camp etc. Junior Mentors work will be “showcased” along with the work of their student groups. The Junior Mentor’s participation and work “models” the eager participation/engagement expected of all our students. Junior Mentors receive on-the-job training in emergency preparedness, food service, youth development, time management and preparation for the workforce.

Our Youth Leaders are hired through the City of St. Paul Right Track Program. The program is for youth who are: ages 14 to 21, live in Saint Paul, and are from a low-income family or have a barrier to employment .

Volunteer Opportunities

Thank you for your interest in volunteering with ARTS-Us. Our volunteers play a key role in ensuring the positive outcomes for ARTS-Us youth.

Our volunteers can apply their talents in a variety of areas such as: teaching arts activities, tutoring, gardening, child care, administrative tasks, and fundraising. We have volunteer opportunities for individuals and groups of all ages.
